-The tears were flowing from Quinn's eyes. Dragonius had to be lying, Wade couldn't be dead . . . she couldn't, but it had been so long since he'd seen her . . . it could be true. No, he couldn't let himself believe that. She was alive, he knew it. Probably still held prisoner by the Draconians.
-Dragonius entered the room nd spoke, "Quinn Mallory, you disappoint me so. The Empire expected you to hunt them down by now." Dragonius cracked a smile, "But we both know that isn't possible . . . what with that Hole in your mind . . ." Quinn's eyes grew large, "What did you do to me!" "It doesn't really matter. I have my orders. You are going to die. And to think, this could have been avoided if you hadn't interfered in our conquest of the Kromaggs." Quinn was becoming livid. He had to escape, but how?
-"Not much further." "Are you sure about this Kerk?" Autumn asked. "Yes. They're going to kill him." "How do we get pass the guards?" Mary asked. "I'm not quite sure . . .yet. We need a distraction." 'Ah HA! Look what we have here," Bennish said. "What?" Autumn asked. "A direct path to the power core of this sub. With a little bit of tinkering, I can convince the sub that it's about to blow." "Nice plan. go for it, "Kerk replied.
-Quinn tried in vain to break his bonds. Dragonius spoke, "Your time has come to an end Mallory." Flashing lights and sirens began. A voice was heard over Dragonius's com-lnk, "Sir, the power core has malfunctioned. we have to evacuate, We're preparing the trans-dislocation devices." "Blast! I wanted to watch you die mallory, but this works out just as well. Enjoy the last few moments of your life." A distortion field appeared and Dragonius vanished. The door to the lab flung itself open and Autumn, Mary, Bennish and Kerk walked through. They untied Quinn and Autumn spoke, "Bennish, you can end your "distraction" now." Bennish walked to a computer terminal and the sirens stopped. "Quick! We have to track Dragonius's distortion field!" "No can do, Quinn. There's so many go off around here that there's no telling who we'd be following,"Autumn said. "He told me they're dead! I have to find out for sure! Give me the timer!" "Quinn. No. He was lying. You know that. It'd be suicide to follow him." "Give me the ti . . . ." Quinn fell to the ground. Bennish dropped the pole he had hit him with. "Hated to do that, hopefully he'll thank me when he regains his senses." "How long till we slide, Autumn," mary asked. "About ten minutes. Which gives us just enough time to get back to where California would be."
-Ten minutes later. 'You know, I actually expected Quinn to have woken up by now," Bennish said. "Oh well, we can throw him in the vortex, I guess. Kerk, what will you do now?" "Take this sub to resistence headquarters. Give us a bit of an upper hand, a chance to study all the Draconian tech. We'll get rid of them and finally have peace here." "Best of luck to you, "Autumn replied. "Here we go, "Bennish said. The swirling green vortex opened and Mary and Bennish threw Quinn in. They followed as did Autumn as the vortex slowly began to vanish."
-A few hours later. "Quinn? Are you okay?" Autumn asked.
"Get away from me! Don't expect any "thank yous"
I could have stopped them, I know I could have, but you wouldn't
let me follow him. If Wade and the others are dead, it's on your
hands now Autumn. Remember that." "Quinn, you may not realize
it now, but I did what HAD to be done. Someone has to take the lead
around here and make the Right decisions and that person is obviously NOT
you!" Autumn left Quinn alone to ponder what she had said.
