An April 2001 FOX ad for That 70's Show featured a very brief wormhole sequence... one strikingly similar to that in the third season of Sliders. At either end of the "tunnel" is a black void, followed by a purple buffer zone, and in the middle is a silver region resembling the effect that we're familiar with.
While obviously not actual footage from Sliders, the appearance is similar enough that it may be a simplified version of the original 3D model, produced by the same effects house.
