The Chandler didn't vanish after Sliders' cancellation. Despite early reports that the famous sign was being dismantled in May of '99, a visitor to the Dimension of Continuity's now-inaccessible forum reported seeing it intact in November 2001... and the hotel has continued to pop up occasionally in various scenes filmed on Universal's New York Street set.
On 2/14/99, NoMaggs posted about the facade's cameo in Gus Van Sant's remake of "Psycho":

I noticed in the new Psycho film that when they were looking for the girl, they showed glimpses of all the places they were visiting in a sort of montage style scene. Anyway, one of the places happened to be a "Chandler Hotel." The writing on the outside of the building was just like it is in Sliders.

On 6/10/01, Vance454 reported another appearance:

I just saw a Church's Chicken commercial about 5 seconds ago with the Chandler Hotel in it. It had a Taxi cab driver driving along when all of a sudden a bill of currency hits his windshield. He reaches out to grab it, meanwhile swerving and hitting in the way. In one scene he hits a fire hydrant, and in the background I swear I saw the sign "Chandler Hotel" in the same exact font and colors!

And this is where it gets really weird. On June 19, 2001, Smash Mouth hit the Universal backlot to record a video for their "I'm a Believer" cover on the Shrek soundtrack. The end result? The Chandler playing host to a "Fairy Tale Convention" attended by Shrek himself. (Thanks to TemporalFlux for the sighting!)
