While the Reticulans' star system of origin is never stated in the episode, those steeped in UFO lore can infer it from their name.
The Zeta Reticuli system is widely touted in UFOlogy as the home of the "Grey" aliens common to many abduction reports. It all started with Betty Hill, an alleged abductee who recreated under hypnosis a starmap shown to her by her captors. Subsequent analysis suggested the star the aliens indicated as their own to be Zeta 2 Reticuli. (Extensive analysis and debate on the Hill starmap can be read here.) Evidently, in the Sliders multiverse, everything Hill claimed to have seen was true.
On "The X-Files," Agent Mulder sarcastically attributed the Reticulans' gray skin to iron deficiency, which drives them to eat human livers... preferably with onions.
