In the state of California, and a county named Bakersfield, we see officers at a settlement they set to live for now near tents, doctors healing the injured, and a american flag with 38 stars, and then 2 men exit a tent. "General Grant, I hope I will do good in this command, as the best sir." General Grant III was giving another general his post, to return to Los Angeles, to settle treaties, and then rides off on his horse. The vortex opens with the sliders exiting, but soon a dozen of men hovering them with rifles, and other guns. "well, you are probably wondering where we just came from, that's a long story to tell." said Quinn, then general Chamberlain comes over to them, forces them off the ground "well I guess you are just tourists, or people wanted to get killed easily." Maggie spoke up and told the general "this is going to sound crazy, but we are travelers from alternate earths. But we all know you guys think were crazy, any way, I'm Maggie Beckett, this is Rembrandt Brown, Quinn and Colin Mallory." The general told the sliders their story was odd, but he actually believed them, so he decided he could get their trust, by putting them into the war.

"why isn't that slave chained down? I don't want him to wreak havoc here in my camp." questioned Chamberlain, and Colin told him "he isn't a slave, we are all equal." then one officer says "here, in this camp, all blacks are slaves, so chain him up over there, Waylend, Martin, get onto it." as the orders were carried out Chamberlain took the timer for safe keeping, and they had 2 weeks here. In another town, we see Rickman in a uniform, getting his injection from a fellow officer which was southern, and he took out the egyptian timer reading 21 days in change. Another fight between enemy lines started the fourth day, and with Remmy showing his military skills, the general allowed his freedom to fight in the war. Maggie helped with injured men, and had to get medical supplies for doctors, but soon was attracted to Chamberlain. "general, we have more enemies coming from both the east and west sides of us!" yelled an officer and so Chamberlain told his troops to fall back, but continue fighting in areas to escape from.

As that night came, the sliders joined Chamberlain for dinner along with other officers. "general?" asked Colin, but he interrupted Colin by saying to him "no call me Joshua, only during the day, I'm the general, so, what is it that you want to know?" "well Joshua I wanted to know why has this war continued for so long, because from where I came from, this civil war never existed." The general was surprised of this question, but decided to update the sliders of whats been happening "Back in 1861, the war had started, and went for nearly 5 years, then in 1865, the war was starting in other places, and ending in others, and when the northerners thought they had a handle on things, the south attacked at weak points, and soon the south had won the war leading for new ways of life, change in goverment, new laws to live by, and the war ended. In 1870, some of the northern soldiers wanted to fight back, so they did, and ever since, we've been at war with each other." Maggie had asked why he would be here, on this side, because of his accent "when I was brought into the military at age 18, I wanted the south to win, then I started to see things that were not right to see of live by, like killing officers not wanting in the military. I defected to the north and got this command a week ago, along with General Grant the 3rd."

As days went on, soldiers went down fighting or defeating the enemy, the sliders did well in the war, while Maggie had seen many officers die in her sight, and knowing is she could of learned how to treat officers, she could help save lives. Rickman had been hit several time covering his wounds with what cloth he had, and watching as fellow officers fought and died, he just hoped to get his injections and leave. He had attacked at least 30-40 officers for brain fluids and no one knew he was evil. One day as it was midday, the troops, Chamberlain, and the sliders had to leave to find a better place to set camp up, but not knowing their enemies had a new weapon they had created, a nuclear missile, helped by Rickman, they could take back which onced they owned. During the afternoon, Chamberlain ordered Quinn and Remmy to join him, to get water, but all he really wanted was company. "uh Quinn, I was wondering if that Maggie Beckett was seeing anyone of you guys?" "no, she had a husband, but died during a fight with her commanding officer." "thanks, I think I going to court her for awhile.

The general went below to the river, as the others stayed up the hill to watch for enemies, then they heard a yell, it was the general, they ran down and saw Rickman "so the sliders, I knew you wouldn't leave me alone." Rickman held Joshua, and he nearly was killed when Rickman wanted an injection, so he threw him, at the sliders and ran off, telling Quinn this wasn't the last time they would meet. The 3 got back to camp, and Remmy was yelling for help, for Chamberlain, Maggie was first out to help him to a cot. Quinn could also see how he does, since he was in Arturo's position with losing brain tissue. As 2 days past, the troops watched for enemies as well as Rickman, but no sign of either. In a tent, Maggie sat with the general, and when he awoke, he was glad to see her "hey, I was hoping to see you Maggie." "I heard you've been attracted to me, well so have I, and I hope something can happen for us." She bends down to him and they start kissing passionately, then his first officer, Cpt. Jonathan Wright "sir, I apoligize for this, but we must move out, we've detected several moves that the southerners have done, what should the orders be?" "Captain, send out 7 troops to setup points for us to track them, or spots that are hard for them to fight us." the officer left, and then they started laughing, Maggie left the tent. "all right everyone listen, I want 7 of you men to head out, I will inform you of what to do, after you all are set to go." I'm going as one of the officers!" said Maggie, but some men laughed, and the captain refused her to go "Maggie, if you get shot, I don't know how I could handle it." said Colin, and then she got onto a horse, and was given orders, by the captain.

As Maggie headed down a trail, she quietly travels, the she hears voices, coming from bushes below, she stops, gets off the horse, and gets her gun, and see's Rickman talking to the traveler. "Got you Rickman, and I'm leaving until your dead!" Rickman told the travler to slide out, and it happened. "well Maggie, my love. its come down to this, shoot me now, before I kill you, and mallory comes after me for murdering 2 people he loved." Maggie pulled the trigger, just as he tried to get his weapon out, and fell to the ground, dropping his gun and the egyptian timer. She grabs it, and finds a note taped to the timer, she opens it, reading numbers, then she fires 4 more times with her gun at Rickmans body, to make sure he pays for what he did to her husband. After returning to camp, she tells Quinn and the others of her shootout with Rickman, and gives Quinn the timer, and the note with Quinn guessing it was coordinates leading someplace. Maggie then began to cry, and Remmy went and comforted her.

As the next day came, the troops were set to leave to another post "well guess you guys are leaving us, happy trails to you all." said the general, then he kissed Maggie, and he jumped on his horse and left to join the others. "I think her heart is going to get broken after sliding out." said Colin to the others. "so Quinn, what are we going to do with 2 timers now?" asked Maggie and he replied "well I haven't really decided, ever since losing this timer, it still doesn't open for several more hours." Colin opens the red vortex, and then Joshua returns forgetting a gift for Maggie. The guys slide out, and he gives her a necklace, to remember him by "I love you Maggie Beckett!" "happy trails to you too." she said, the she jumps in, and the general watches as the vortex closes.
