"CRISIS - Part 2" --- Act 2 ==> "Countdown to Slidedown"

[ AKA: Countdown to Bore-DUMB ]

---------------------------------------------------------------------
At 12:55 AM, two men come out of a large vent shaft of the
Welles-Arturo Institute building. Reynolds closes the
grating cover after they exit.

[ Well it wouldn't make much sense to close the cover BEFORE he exited, now would it? ]

PETE: "I told you getting past security would be easy.
REYNOLDS (smiling): "I only hope Belasco comes through with the ransom money for us. [ <<< end quotations missing ]

PETE: "Yeah, if we can trust the lazy >>> bastard one <<< he gets it!"

[ I can't believe how rarely you make grammatical errors. You must have taught grammar at a highly accredited university -- before the accident that caused your brain damage. And who is "Bastard One"? Whomever it is, the name is definitely a good one for Executive. Perhaps that could be the next handle you adopt to impersonate me. At least it accurately describes you. ]

After sunrise, Dr. Welles and his guests have eaten breakfast. Welles and Wade discussed some things while Rembrandt and Maggie were out of the room.

[ "Some things", huh? How very descriptive ]

One hour later they are now being driven by Welles in his blue minivan,

[ What model was it? Was it at close range? ]

as they go to the institute. Dr. WELLES: "Before we left, I made an important call to Washington. I have decided to not
pay the ransom. --- REMBRANDT: "But what about your daughter, Doctor?"
DR. WELLES: "I'll deal with them in my own way. She will be safe." ---
MAGGIE: "How can you be so sure?"

[ Because this is a crappy story and he is forced to, despite being completely stupid to do so? ]

WELLES: "Because the call I made was to a Congresswoman I know. She will make the necessary arrangements to have my
Wade rescued."

[ That would put most people's minds at ease, I'm sure. Nice system where any time someone is held hostage, you have to contact your congress-person to have something done. ]

--- QUINN: "Do you think my calculations will work on
your sliding equipment?"
WELLES: "I looked through them very carefully last night, Mallory.

[ They are so buddy-buddy that they call each other by their last names ]

We will have to make a few technical adjustments to
the overall computer setup,

[ How can you NOT suspend disbelief with technical detail like that?!!! ]

but I think it can be done." The minivan pulls in to the Welles-Arturo parking lot. He stops and they all get out.

[ The minivan is a "he"? ]

The group walks into the entrance of the building.

[ Even Rembrandt? Why not just have him walk through the wall? ]

Dr. Welles removes his wallet, and takes out an
electropass ID card which he slips into the electronic lock. The door

[ The term "electropass" is clearly the only thing Exec retained from watching "The Prisoner." ]

opens automatically. He takes out the card and holds
it as they enter the lobby. DR. WELLES: "Good morning, Jimmy!" ---
JIMMY (the security guard): "Hello, Dr. Welles."

[ The pivotal role of Jimmy is to be played by Marlon Brando. Marlon is quoted as saying "This is my most difficult role, but it is the one I was born to play!" ]

There are two elevators. Welles inserts the electropass into the one on the left and it opens. He again retrieves the card.
He enters the elevator along with the Sliders. REMBRANDT: "How long do you think it will take, sir?"

[ What is the deal with this "sir" stuff? First Quinn, now Remmy. ]

WELLES: "I don't know; with Quinn's help maybe 2 to 3 hours at the most." The elevator opens on the sixth floor, which is
also the top floor. They exit and begin to walk left down the long
hallway. WELLES: "Once we open the wormhole, I can't
guarantee you 100% that you will return to your home Earth." They stop at the lab, and he slides his electropass in the
lock. "But you should emerge on a world very close to it."

[ That's a big consolation, considering they want to GET HOME!!! ]

--- QUINN:
"We have the capability to transfer whatever
>>> coordiantes <<< already in Dr. Welles' sliding equipment into our timer."

[ What is a coordiante? It sounds like a Spanish drink. ]

--- WADE: "And if something goes wrong on another
world, we can return here so you guys can get it right the next time!"

[ Thanks for spelling things out for us, Wade. ]

They all enter the science lab.
QUINN: "Let's just be glad we still have 6 and 1/2 weeks until the next slide even after we leave here!"

[ Let's just be glad we are nearly done this story ]

Quinn and Welles
get to work on the computers as the others wait patiently for over 2 hours.
REMBRANDT: "Did I ever tell you ladies about the time I was knee deep in a Vietnamese swamp..."

[ "Did I ever tell you about the time this dog had its brain removed? Well, it was still smarter than the plot of this story! Come to that, it was also smarter than Executive." ]

WADE (interrupting him): "Only about five times in the last 3 years, Remmy."

[ Yeah, like how often we heard him talk of such things in Season 1 and 2, right? ]

MAGGIE: "I love a good war story, but I heard this one at least twice already!"
WADE: "You know guys, Dr. Welles was telling me of the trips that he used to take into other dimensions with his partner
Arturo and the other Wade. They went back and forth for 2 months until Dr. Welles ended his sliding vacation to return to
his work here. Eventually, he built a few new add-on circuits that
made his sliding equipment so powerful that Arturo and
Wade were able to slide to England, France, Greece, Brazil, and about 16 other countries."

[ 16 you say? Amazing. Astounding. Oh, the implications for mankind! ]

REMBRANDT: "How were they able to travel through so many wormholes? It must have taken a while to go anywhere outside the United States!"

[ THAT is a Rembrandt line? LOL! ]

WADE: "Not really. They were travelling at the speed of light, so when they came out of the last connecting wormhole, only 5 minutes had passed.

[ Yeah, if you say so Exec. *snicker* I guess the laws of physics differ in that make-believe fantasy world you live in. Since when are wormholes connected to each other in the show anyway? ]

--- REMBRANDT: "Man, that's the only way to fly!"
--- MAGGIE: "So what happened to the big guy?"
WADE: "Unfortunately, on their last slide together, Arturo's heart stopped. I guess all of that long-distance sliding was
just too much for him. So the other Wade decided that she would never slide again, so she returned to this world for the last time.

[ Such feeling! You can clearly see Wade's empathy and concern for what happened to their Arturo. I think we have a contender for the 2nd most moving segment of the story, next to the clothes-dryer speech. *HAHAHAHA* ]

--- QUINN: "And now her life is in danger, and we can't do anything about it."

[ HOLY S**T! How will they get out of this one?!! ]
